Motorcyclists union sacks local chairman over alleged N1.1m fraud in Kogi

The Lokoja Native Authorities department of the Kogi State Nigeria Motorbike Transport Union has sacked its department chairman, Alhaji Baba Musa Aliyu, over alleged N1.1 million fraud.

The union executives, in a gathering held in Lokoja, resolved to sack the chairman “to avoid wasting the union’’ from additional embarrassment.

The executives, who signed their resolutions, appointed Musa Sadiq Abubakar, the vice chairman of the union, to take over as appearing chairman.

The sack of Aliyu was contained in a letter dated April 1, 2024, wherein officers of the union handed a vote of no confidence within the embattled chairman.

The letter reads partially: “We, the under-listed names and signatories, have unanimously handed a vote of no confidence in your management because the Chairman, Nigeria Motorbike Transport Union, Lokoja Native Authorities Department, and also you’re hereby impeached.

“Your impeachment is predicated in your ungodly and unconstitutional actions because you assumed workplace because the chairman. These embrace monopolisation of union positions, embezzlement of union funds, incapability to care for the welfare of members, and lack of accountability because the account of the union with our financial institution is dormant.

“The union hospital [service] has closed as a result of your incapability to service them as members are now not accepted for remedy. The latest one that’s ungodly, scandalous, and barbaric is your refusal to ship compensation cash meant for one Lawali Nuhu, who was concerned in an accident and died in Felele Lokoja. The state chairman of the union [had to] intervene by suspending you from workplace earlier than the cash was launched to the household of the late Lawali Nuhu.

“It’s on the above points and others too quite a few to say that you simply’re hereby impeached with fast impact and your vice is hereby nominated to behave because the appearing chairman pending the decision of the union.”
