Kwara police on alert after prison jailbreak in neighbouring Niger

Kwara State police command has put sufficient measures in place to checkmate any try by the escaped inmates of the Suleija custodial centre in neighbouring Niger State to enter Kwara or trigger any hurt.

It may very well be recalled that on the twenty fourth of April, 2024, there was a heavy rainstorm which occurred at night time and inflicted an intensive harm on the Medium Safety Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State, resulting in the escape of 118 inmates.

An announcement by the spokesperson of the Kwara command, DSP, Ejire Adeyemi Toun, in Ilorin on Sunday mentioned “as a neighboring state, the Kwara state police is totally conscious of the safety implications of such incident.”

She mentioned the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya had assured that the command was on excessive alert and was working intently with the related companies to make sure the security and safety of the state.

“He reassures the general public that sufficient measures have been put in place to stop any try by the escaped inmates to enter or trigger hurt inside the state.

“Patrols have been intensified alongside the border areas, and surveillance has been elevated in weak places.

“We urge all residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious actions to the closest safety company. Collectively, we are able to preserve peace and safety in our communities.

“The Kwara State police command stays dedicated to its mandate of defending lives and property and assures the residents of its readiness to reply swiftly to any safety challenges.
