C’River Speaker’s security aides engage armed kidnappers in shootout

There have been sporadic shootouts between safety particulars hooked up to the Speaker of the Cross River State Home of Meeting, Elvert Ayambem, to disperse gunmen who tried to kidnap commuters on the Ikom-Calabar federal freeway.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when the Speaker’s convoy was returning to Ikom after attending the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Sylvester Agabi’s thanksgiving ceremony in Obudu LGA.

A gaggle of unknown gunmen was stated to have blocked the street, halting site visitors from each instructions.

A press release from his media aide, Matthew Okache, stated: “The Speaker and his crew dispersed the miscreants and engaged in sporadic taking pictures to clear the street for stranded motorists to proceed.

“The gallant efforts of the safety particulars not solely averted a possible tragedy the place many would have been killed or kidnapped but additionally restored the movement of site visitors alongside the important freeway, guaranteeing the protection of travellers.”
