Court summons 5 over defamation of Mercy Chinwo, husband Blessed

The Chief Justice of the Peace Court docket, Wuse Zone 2, has summoned 5 social media customers over their involvement within the defamation of gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo; and her husband, Blessed Uzochikwa.

Within the courtroom summons dated April 3, 2024, Chief Justice of the Peace Emmanuel Iyanna directed the 5 defendants to seem in particular person earlier than the courtroom on April 23, 2023, to reply to expenses levelled in opposition to them by the complainants.

The complainants within the case are Blessed Uzochikwa and Mercy Chinwo whereas the 5 defendants are Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot, and Samuel Agozie.

After posting the image of the newborn, the defendants alleged that there was a resemblance between the newborn and one other gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey, and claimed that he was the daddy, an allegation that went viral.

In a felony grievance filed by the complainants’ attorneys led by Pelumi Olajengbesi of Abuja-based legislation agency, Legislation Hall, Mercy Chinwo and her husband stated the alleged actions of the defendants amounted to cyber intimidation, injurious falsehood, and cyberstalking focused at their individuals.

The complainants stated the alleged actions of the defendants are opposite to Sections 391 of the Penal Code and Part 24 (1)(B) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention and so forth) Act 2015.

Justice of the Peace Emmanuel Iyanna thereafter ordered the 5 defendants to seem earlier than the courtroom on April 23, 2024, to reply the fees.
